AN EXPERIMENT
Because of COVID-19, plans for producing the visual for the next single, "Magic City" got derailed. What is there to do during isolation, when there is seemingly no way to connect with other creatives? You figure out a way to fulfill the goal.
As an experiment, playing with an app on her iPhone, Luna figured out some amateur-level editing, incorporated a few of her favorite #BlackWomanIsGod Mentors, and created a home-style visual. Utilizing what she has termed as Mirror Play - a type of Active Affirmation (movements and actions to accompany the words spoken and to affirm one’s intentions and desires) involving role play, dress up, and empowering mantras.

In her new single, “Magic City”, Luna invites the listener to come into her secret place. Imagine feathers, lace, and pink florals, where self-care is ritual and adornment is a sacred act. The song is soft, but in it she demands to be revered as a shrine of divinity. With sultry vocals and ambient keys, “Magic City” serves as an affirmation of Black Women’s beauty, magic and power. Wherever Black Women are, there is magic.

A Quarantine Experiment
The Vibe
Imagine a sacred place, a magical world, mystical and mysterious, soft and luminous, women-filled, and ambient lit. Pinks and florals, lace and feathers, champagne and all the pretty little things are at your fingertips. At the intersection of seduction and worship, the vocals are sultry and soulful, mixed with warm keys and a trap beat. Magic City takes on the task of embracing the layers of femininity as worship and becomes the Black woman’s anthem to beholding her power and divinity.

Using Mirror Play, Luna characterizes herself through dress up and role play. Imagine you could create a character of yourself, give her a name, and identify/assign her special attributes and gifts. By aligning your intentions with dress up, with Mirror Play you take the idea of an affirmation and move it beyond the spoken words into Active Affirmation - an actionable extension of your intentions and desires. With your mirror, you bridge the gap between fantasy and reality by invoking the super powers of that character through your Mirror Play. You are still you, but your character has no faults or shortcomings. She is strong and capable. There are many types of Active Affirmation, and Mirror Play is the tool Luna used to help push through her own anxiety and insecurities to release her new music.
THE CHARACTERS
LULU ROSA
Wearing a soft pink masquerade mask, flaunting her luscious pink feather fan, Lulu loves champagne and rose flavored macaroons. She’s refined, cultured and enjoys hosting events, but behind the mask is a Southern girl who simply loves cooking and spending time with her family and close friends.
MOONSHINE DIVINE
Paying close attention to the stars and phases of the moon, she is feline, feminine, and would rather inspire than entangle you. On the superstitious side, she keeps her grandmother’s handkerchief in her pocket for protection and good luck. Unintentionally flirty, and often misunderstood, Moonshine is very shy, preferring to explore her creativity in solitude.
PRINCESS MISS
Rocking her favorite hot pink, floral gele (head wrap) with fuchsia lace gloves, Miss Priss is regal, majestic and playful. She loves finding unique jewelry and will dress up just to go to the grocery store. Everything in her house has sparkles on it and the youth call her the “Boujee Auntie”. During the day she facilitates empowerment workshops where she teaches girls and young women how to wrap their hair with bright, colorful fabrics.
PHOENYX STAR
Fresh off the stage in a black latex dress with ombre platinum-to-pink, knee length braids, Phoenyx is the siren of your dreams. She takes her personal motto from the famous Eartha Kitt quote “Compromise For What?” When she’s not performing you can find her championing alongside the causes she believes in. Get past the tough-girl exterior, Pheonyx is a softie who really just wants to cuddle.
